To increase productivity, automation is often the answer. When it comes to packaging products in varying box sizes, robotics can handle the job quickly and help eliminate repetitive injuries.

What is a case erector?

A case erector is an industry term for an end-of-line packaging system that erects and forms flat boxes so they are ready to be filled with product. In this instance, “case” and “box” are interchangeable terms. While you might refer to the cardboard shipping containers as “boxes,” in the packaging industry, they’re typically called “cases.”

If you need a variety of box sizes formed, you need a random case erector. “Random” refers to the different size boxes being formed for product shipment.

Robotics enables Combi to provide new packaging solutions like the Combi RCE, Robotic Random Case Erector, since they offer the flexibility to handle random box sizes easily.

How does robotics affect random case erecting?
Robotics enables efficiency in end-of-line packaging solutions when erecting multiple case sizes. Using FANUC robots, Combi develops systems with flexible end-of-arm tooling to pick and form cases of different sizes. This helps reduce changeover time and repetitive motion injuries.

The RCE, Robotic Random Case Erector combines a six-axis FANUC robot with flexible end-of-arm tooling that can pick and form various different case sizes on the fly.
